ABOUT COUNTRY COLLEGE
Country College was established in 2014 by a mother and daughter team with almost 30 years experience in Education. What started as a pilot project with just 13 pupils, is now a school of 200 pupils, offering Gr RRR to Gr 7.
We offer one class per grade and aim for 24 students per class. Our passionate teachers are all well experienced, caring and giving, helping us at Country College to shape the whole child.
Country College is an independent school, which is registered with MPED and fully accredited by Umalusi. We are also members of ISASA
CURRICULUM
Country College follows the CAPS curriculum. This allows pupils to easily transition to other schools and to high school. As an independent school we have a good deal of flexibility with our academic planning, and we incorporate a lot of additional material into our daily lessons.
Students from Gr RRR to Gr 3 receive computer lessons as part of their curriculum, whilst other students have access to the Computer Room for research and other curriculum related activities.
We are a no homework school.
Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3 will always have to practice reading, spelling and maths at home each day. All other classes do not get regular homework. Students are rather encouraged to work hard in class, at a good pace, in order to compete their work.
SPORT AND EXTRA MURAL
Extra Murals and Sport are part of the school day each Tuesday and Thursday. As a small school it is difficult to compete with other schools regularly as we have insufficient students to form teams. Whenever possible, Country College participates in sporting events such as Athletics, Soccer, and Netball that are organised by similar schools in our area.
During our Sports sessions, we aim to build skills in : Soccer, Netball, Hockey and Athletics. Other Extra Murals activities include Choir, Art Club, Public Speaking, Chess Club, Dance and Drama Club, and Cultural Club.
Country College also has an award winning Marimba Band which is coached by our Principal.
COMMUNITY
Fun and giving back to our community. We have regular Funky Fridays where students get to dress up to a Theme. Funds collected from these events are used for charity. Our local old aged home is supported – each year we hand over Christmas gifts for each resident. Our local Children’s Home also receives donations of Gifts and Stationery and a local care centre also benefits from our student’s contributions.
